RCA Cables can have many uses.
Analog Audio Cable
They are typically known for use in pairs as an analog audio cable to connect divices like TVs to a receiver or hifi system. More modern systems support higher quality connectors such as optical cables and digital coaxial connectors.
Digital Coaxial Connector
Ideally a coaxial cable should be used for a coaxial connection, but a single RCA cable will work fine. So if your stuck for a coaxial cable and have a few spare RCA cables lying round (or half of a pair) then you can use them.
Video Cable
Single or 3 way (RGB/AV) RCA cables can be used for video connections on devices such as composite video terminals. Other types of video cables and connections are HDMI, DVI, VGA and SVHS where HDMI is the highest quality digital audio and video connector.
